Our friends over at Maple Brothers Auctions are gearing up for this week’s big sale. Their Kansas City event will take place this Friday and Saturday, August 12th and 13th, at the Kansas City Convention Center.
The Kansas City docket consists of Corvettes from each of the first seven generations plus many other classic and collector vehicles. Slicing through the diverse Corvette offerings we see 1 C1, 20 C2’s, 20 C3’s, 3 C4’s, 3 C5’s , a pair of C6’s, and 1 lone C7. The cars range from good drivers to gleaming restomods and everything in between.
Here’s look at some of our favorites coming up this week in KC.
In 1956, Corvette was beginning to come in its own. Style and performance were finally balancing out thanks to the iconic, 2nd-year V8 under the hood. The body was redesigned to include the signature coves on the side and classic single headlights upfront. It was also the first model year in which buyers could select a removable hardtop in addition to (or in place of) the standard soft convertible top. All that added up to total sales of 3,467 units that year – up nearly 5x from 1955’s 700 units.
The handsome 1956 roadster offered here is finished in Aztec Copper with Shoreline Beige coves, a beige interior, and a new beige soft top. Under the hood we find the 225hp variant of the 265ci V8 as indicated by its FG suffix code. A Powerglide automatic transmission routes power out back to the rear wheels. The car also features power windows and wide white wall tires.
Corvette’s 2nd generation ran from 1963 – 1967. Today, C2’s, or midyears as they’re also referred to, are arguably the most popular genre of Corvettes among collectors. The 5-year span of the C2 Corvette saw the birth of many iconic Corvette features including disc brakes, independent rear suspension, hidden headlights, and side exhaust. It was also the first Corvette generation to get a big block engine with the 396ci rat motor in 1965.
While not a big block, this 1965 Convertible offered in KC does feature the high revving L76 365hp, 327ci engine. 5,011 cars were built with that mill for the 1965 model year. A 4-speed manual transmission is mated to the engine.
The exterior is finished in popular Nassau Blue which is complemented by the attractive blue/white interior. New carpet and door panels were installed this year. This Sting Ray is equipped with many nice options including power steering, side exhaust, and knock off wheels wearing blackwall tires. An aftermarket AM/FM radio provides the soundtrack to your cruising experience.
If you follow the collector car hobby at all, you already know that restomod Corvettes are wildly popular among collectors and enthusiasts. It’s hard not to love classic Corvette styling with all the latest modern amenities hiding underneath.
This 2008 Corvette flips that script, though. It began life as one of the 35,310 Corvettes born in Bowling Green in 2008. While it still retains the factory 430hp LS3 engine, paddle shift 6-speed transmission, and functional black interior, the exterior has been treated to full retro makeover in 1963 form. At a quick glance, you may not even notice that something’s going on with this one. However, the chrome ZR1-style wheels, C6 shaped A-pillar, and the rear center mount exhaust will tell you to look closer. It’s then that you’ll see all the 1963 details like the cookie sheets inset on the hood, the quad taillights out back, and even the 1963 gas filler cap mounted right below that unmistakable rear split window.
According to the listing, all the factory options remain fully functional including the removable hardtop. The current mileage is said to be 19,027.
