These Straight Axle Corvettes are Up for Grabs at the 2nd Annual Brian Wedding Auction

Our friends at Freije and Freije Auctions are gearing up for their 2nd Annual Brian Wedding Collection sale. The two-day event runs June 24th and June 25th at their facility at 3801 N. Burkhardt Road in Evansville, Indiana. Over 20 of the 155 vehicles currently listed are Corvettes.

Perusing the Corvette docket, we see seven of the eight generations represented. While we’d love to have any of them in our garage, here are a couple of early Corvettes we’re quite fond of.

1961 Red/Black Corvette Convertible

1961 Red/Black Corvette Convertible

When the 1961 Corvette was revealed, it gave us a sneak peek at the upcoming C2 Corvette. It was an artful blend of the current generation’s dual headlights up front and the new rear end styling featuring the sharp rear fenders with now-famous quad taillights. 1961 also marked the last year for contrasting cove colors on the side of the car.

1961 Red/Black Corvette Convertible

This 1961 Corvette is a red beauty with a black vinyl interior and white coves. Motivation comes in the form of a 283ci engine that’s bolted to a 4-speed manual transmission. The listing notes that the engine is topped off with a 1958 carburetor and intake. We also see white wall radial tires in addition to the radio and clock noted in the window card. Overall, this appears to be a nice driver Corvette that just needs a new pilot behind the wheel.

1962 Red/Red Corvette Convertible

1962 Red/Red Corvette Convertible

1962 was the final year for the first generation of Corvette. Changes were minimal while GM prepped the upcoming 1963 Corvette. Most notably, 1962 first introduced us to the 327 cubic inch engine. We also said hello to new lower rocker moldings while we said goodbye to the trunk and exposed headlights at the end of the model year.

The 1962 offered here is finished in red paint over a red leather interior. All that red is complemented nicely by a white soft top and classic white wall tires. Power comes from the requisite 327ci engine that’s backed to a 4-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 78,608 miles. Looking through the listing we see what appears to be a well-presented C1 Corvette. Both the interior and engine compartment appear tidy look to be road-ready.
